Clean water, caught early

Category 1 water that has been in the wall less than 48 hours can often be dried in place using cavity drying: small holes behind the baseboard line, dry air injected, and moisture verified daily until it matches the dry standard.

When it has to come out

Removal is the right call when:

  • The water was gray or black category
  • Insulation behind the drywall is saturated
  • The material has been wet more than a few days
  • The board is soft, crumbling or already showing growth

The flood cut

When removal is required, drywall is typically cut two to four feet above the highest moisture line, giving a clean seam for reinstallation and full access for drying the cavity and framing.
